It’s in your best interest to learn more about any ecommerce technology trend that could improve your online business and crush the mobile commerce game.

However, if you’re short on time and ready to take action, here are five trends that deserve immediate attention. Following these has helped many ecommerce businesses and marketers excel at a higher level. 

1. Live chat 

The ecommerce world is evolving, and with that, today's potential customer is interested in more efficient and effective communication. And that’s where live chat (and even chatbots) comes into play.

According to Zendesk, customer satisfaction ratings for live chat (85%) outpace all other forms—including email and social media—except phone support (91%).

Live chat is effective throughout (and after) the customer journey, with this technology helping to:

  • Answer customer questions to increase conversion rates.
  • Engage customers to keep them on the site longer.
  • Provide post-sales customer support (such as how to use a product).

2. Headless CMS

It might sound like something from Sleepy Hollow, but headless CMS is one of the fastest-growing trends in the ecommerce space.

Here’s how Contentful defines headless CMS:

A headless CMS is any type of back-end content management system where the content repository “body” is separated or decoupled from the presentation layer “head.” Content that is housed in a headless CMS is delivered via APIs for seamless display across different devices.

Virtual reality shopping goes hand in hand with augmented reality. Companies such as Klarna are already making major waves in this space.

Why type when you can verbally search instead? According to Google, 27% of the global population currently uses some form of voice search on their mobile phone, and this stat is predicted to rise as voice search becomes more popular.

ERPs are the way to go for an all-in-one solution to ecommerce operations. This computer-based application manages all aspects of the business, from product planning, inventory management, supply chain, sales, marketing, etc.

This application updates in real-time to ensure efficiency and communication across all departments. Having all information in one central database rather than across different channels makes it easier to use big data to analyze, predict, and forecast the business's health.

Yes, you can buy, sell and trade through this realistic virtual channel, but you can also learn, play, and interact, which opens a world of possibilities for brands to create immersive events and experiences. 

Ecommerce brands could create their own shops in the metaverse, sponsor virtual concerts, and even host VIP parties for loyal customers. 

While creating a viable metaverse for the public may take many more years to become accessible, brands need to keep tabs on what they will need to do to play and compete in this digital space.

It’s one thing to understand the top ecommerce technology trends of 2023, but another thing entirely to take advantage of them. Something many of us didn't think would happen soon, like purchasing cars online, is already a reality and is becoming a trend due to the pandemic.
